Import your existing knowledge base

How to get there: Go to your Knowledge Base board → open the actions menu → pick the import method that fits your source.

Moving off another help tool, or starting from files you already have? ProductLift has three ways to get existing content in without retyping it. Pick the one that matches where your articles live today.

Option 1: Paste URLs from a live help site

Best when your current KB is already public on the web (a vendor help center, an older docs site, a Notion public page, etc.) and you don't have the source files.

  • Paste a list of URLs, or a sitemap XML.
  • Each page is scraped, cleaned up by AI, and inserted as an article.
  • Images from the source are downloaded and rehosted on your storage, so you can turn the old site off later.

Option 2: Upload a folder of markdown files

Best when your content is already in markdown (moving from GitHub-hosted docs, MkDocs, Docusaurus, an internal wiki export, etc.) or when you want to edit your KB with AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor.

  • ZIP a folder of .md files (sections become folders, files become articles).
  • Upload it under Edit with AI.
  • Preview the diff and confirm. Only changed articles get updated.

Option 3: Let AI draft articles from your changelog

Best when you don't have an existing KB yet but you do have a history of feature announcements or release notes in ProductLift's changelog.

  • Turn changelog entries into full help articles with one click.
  • Keeps your announcements and your docs in sync.

After importing

However you bring content in, everything lands as normal ProductLift KB articles, so you can:

  • Rearrange sections with Manage Structure.
  • Run Check links to catch broken external URLs from the old site.
  • Edit any article inline, or export back to markdown any time.
