AI Answers in Knowledge Base Search

Let your users ask questions and get instant AI-generated answers based on your knowledge base articles.

How to get there: Go to your knowledge base board → click the gear icon (Board Settings) → Display Options section → toggle Enable AI answers in search.

How It Works

When enabled, the knowledge base search bar changes to "Search or ask a question..." and users can:

  1. Type a question like "How do I integrate with HubSpot?"
  2. Click "Ask AI" — the first option that appears below the search input
  3. Get an instant answer synthesized from your knowledge base articles, with links to the source articles

The AI searches your knowledge base articles for relevant content, then generates a concise answer based only on what's in your documentation. It does not make up information.

AI answers also work in the global search overlay (accessible via the search bar in the navigation or Ctrl+K / Cmd+K). When any knowledge base board has AI answers enabled, the "Ask AI" button appears in the global search as well.

Credits

Each AI answer costs 1 AI credit from your portal's monthly allowance. Regular searches (without clicking "Ask AI") do not use credits.

Enabling AI Answers

AI answers are automatically enabled for new knowledge base boards. For existing boards:

  1. Open the knowledge base board
  2. Click the gear icon to open Board Settings
  3. Scroll to Display Options
  4. Toggle Enable AI answers in search
  5. Click Save
