Auto-reply to new posts with AI

How to get there: Go to Settings in the sidebar → AI tab (under Integrations) → Auto-reply to new posts card.

Automatically post a friendly AI-generated comment on every new post created by a user. The reply is posted under the name and avatar of an admin you select, so the user feels heard within minutes instead of waiting for someone to read the post.

What it does

When a user submits a new post, ProductLift:

  1. Waits a random 30 to 120 seconds (so the reply doesn't appear the same second they hit submit, which would look obviously automated).
  2. Asks the AI to write a short 2 to 3 sentence comment that thanks the user, asks one clarifying question if anything is unclear, or simply acknowledges the suggestion.
  3. Posts that comment on the post as the admin you selected.

The reply never promises features, timelines, or implementation. It is designed to feel like a real person glanced at the post, not corporate filler.

When the auto-reply does NOT fire

The auto-reply is intentionally skipped for:

  • Posts created by admins. Admins typically reply manually; the system won't waste an AI credit on your own posts.
  • Seeded onboarding posts. The demo posts created when you sign up don't get auto-replies.
  • Posts that already have a comment (for example, if your widget submitted the post together with a first comment).
  • Portals out of AI credits. The job exits silently. Top up credits and future posts will auto-reply again.
  • When no "Reply as" user is selected. Without an admin to post as, nothing happens.

Setup

  1. Open Settings > AI and find the Auto-reply to new posts card.
  2. Toggle Reply automatically to new posts from users.
  3. Pick a Reply as admin. This user's name and avatar will appear on every auto-reply comment, so choose someone whose voice you want associated with the brand (often the product manager or community lead).
  4. Click Save.

That's it. The next user-created post will get an auto-reply within 30 to 120 seconds.

Customizing the prompt

Click Edit prompt to override the default. You can rewrite the tone, length, or content rules. Three placeholders are substituted at run time:

  • {portal_name}, your portal name
  • {title}, the post title
  • {content}, the post body

Leave the prompt blank to fall back to the default (the placeholder text shown in the field). You can always click Reset to default to clear your override.

Example: more terse, asks for a screenshot when relevant

Reply to a new feedback post on {portal_name} in one or two sentences.

Title: {title}
Body: {content}

If the post is a bug report and no screenshot or steps are mentioned,
ask the user to add a screenshot or reproduction steps. Otherwise
just thank them. No filler. No promises.

Cost

Each auto-reply uses one AI credit. If your portal runs out of credits, auto-replies pause until you top up. They never queue up retroactively, so a backlog will not consume a burst of credits the moment you refill.

Turning it off

Toggle Reply automatically to new posts from users off and click Save. Already-posted auto-reply comments remain on their posts; you can delete them like any other comment.

Tips

  • Set up AI auto-moderation alongside auto-reply so spam posts get flagged before the AI replies to them.
  • Pair with AI auto-tag to also categorize the post automatically.
  • If you change your default language in Portal settings, the AI will follow that language in its replies (the prompt itself can be in English; the AI will match the post language).
